Gauges and Meters

In order for the driver to keep an eye on things, gauges are an important source of information, on what's going on in the engine bay. There are many types of gauges that can display different information, such as:

FAQ

What is the difference between Mechanical and Electronic Gauges, and what are the benefits of both types?

We often get asked about the different types of gauges, and why they differ in price. Basically, the mechanical type of meters read information through a mechanical means, which may be a vacuum hose if it's a Boost Gauge, or a copper tube if it's an Oil Pressure Gauge, for example. The benefits are they are reasonably inexpensive and read the information required. On the downside, imagine the scenario where an Oil Pressure Gauge inside the cockpit of a car becomes faulty, and the union at the rear of the gauge begins to leak oil into the cockpit. This isn't a good thing for obvious reasons, but where the Electronic Gauges excel is that they have their own sender unit which sits inside the engine bay and all of the information is sent along wires to the gauge unit inside the car.

Also, the Electronic Gauges have built in functions which warn the driver if the information is above or below a pre-defined level. This comes in handy when monitoring high boost or low oil pressure situations.

How is it that these gauges seem to be expensive, when I can get a gauge for £20.00...?

All of the Japanese manufactured meters are made to the highest standards, and as the saying goes, 'you get what you pay for'. In our experience, we have known some cheaper gauges stop working within days of fitting, and even had the needles falling off. Though they did light up 10 different colours...mmmm!

All of our meters and gauges are sold with a 12 month warranty, which we will honour if a problem occurs with the product, and replace it free of charge.
